the production line.

Laser OEMs need more than a good first article. They need the same figure, angle, coating, handling, and delivery performance when the build repeats—and a supplier who responds before a missed shipment becomes a line-down.

IRD builds cavity optics, mirrors, filters, prisms, cylindrical optics, homogenizers, and tooling from prototype through production, with fabrication, coating, and inspection connected in one cell.

Built around the laser.
Qualified by repeat production.

IRD supplies cavity reflectors to the solid-state laser industry and holds long-running sole-source relationships with laser and photonics manufacturers including TRUMPF and Prima Power. IRD has been recognized with Supplier Excellence Awards five times by Spectra Physics / Laser Plane and twice by Spectra Precision.

The more useful proof is what those programs have in common: energy, wavelength, polarization, angle, material, figure, finish, coating, packaging, and annual demand reviewed as one production problem rather than a list of separate specifications.

That is why laser programs are organized in dedicated cells — the people who understand the failure mode stay connected to the process that prevents it, build after build.

Mirror capability includes >99.9% reflectivity, surface finish below 2 Å Ra, flatness better than 1/20 wave, and laser damage threshold exceeding 80 J/cm² at 1064 nm, 1 ms.

Cavity Optics & High-Energy Mirrors

Surfaces built for what happens at operating power.

Cavity reflectors, high-reflection mirrors, and high-laser-damage-threshold optics require the substrate, polish, cleaning, coating, edge condition, and handling plan to agree. IRD manufactures these elements as system components rather than isolated catalog optics.

Beam Steering & Shaping

Angle, form, and alignment determine where the energy goes.

Prisms, wedges, cylindrical lenses, light pipes, and homogenizers steer, expand, focus, rotate, or redistribute a beam. IRD controls the geometry and provides the metrology needed to verify angular and surface relationships before assembly.

Filters, Beamsplitters & Coatings

Transmission and reflection targets that survive the real system.

Electron-beam and DC sputtering chambers support AR, BBAR, HR, beamsplitter, filter, metallic, patterned, and wavelength-specific coatings. Fabrication and coating stay connected so masking, fixtures, cleaning, witness samples, and inspection are designed into the route.

Production Continuity

A reliable optic is also an optic that arrives.

Dedicated cells connect scheduling, capacity, revision control, inspection, packaging, and corrective action to the people who run the process. A design change after first article goes to the team that already owns the part rather than into a queue behind a new-customer quote, and demand or capacity risk gets raised as a scheduling conversation before it becomes a missed ship date.

Laser optics are not one-grade components. Attribute-level specifications let the manufacturing route concentrate time where the system earns performance.

Measure the surface, the angle, and the relationship.

Interferometry, autocollimation, surface metrology, and non-contact dimensional inspection verify different parts of the print. The correct method is agreed with the acceptance criteria before production, and the data travels with the part.

White-light interferometry for surface roughness and micro-form verification.

How the program is supported

Laser OEM qualification is built on process control, delivery performance, traceability, and direct technical access—not a generic promise of precision. IRD has held above 98% on-time delivery for a decade and carries an Exceptional Quality Performance award at zero PPM from Honeywell Aerospace.

ISO 9001:2015

Certified quality management system for ultra-high precision glass, optical, and ceramic components.

ITAR registered

Registered with the Directorate of Defense Trade Controls; controlled work stays domestic across both plants.

Veteran-owned

100% owned by two United States veterans representing the Navy and the Army; SBA-qualified small business.

Cell-based manufacturing

Dedicated people, equipment, and process ownership from material through inspection.
